Five Costa Rican Beaches Lose Blue Flags
Last year in Costa Rica, five beaches had their “blue flag” revoked. In other words, they did not perform up to standard when measured for pollution and the health of their ecosystem.
All of the beaches were located in Puntarenas, including Bejuco, El Rey, Hermosa de Garabito and Quesera.
81 beaches currently participate in the program, 61 of those are recognized with blue flags.
Some of the top five star blue flag beaches include Guanacaste's Punta del Madero and Playa Blanca de Punta Leona located near Jacó.
